Comfort Quilt for a Pastor

I had the privilege of machine quilting this special quilt for a customer who lovingly stitched it for her pastor who is going through cancer treatment.

She purchased the quilt pattern and Scripture motifs from the Log Cabin Quilt Shop in Bird in Hand.
Since the Scripture blocks needed to be the main focus, I did a simple stipple in the body of the quilt.

Then, I did some squiggles (need a name for this design!) in the inner border, and piano keys in the outer border.  (I find if I practice on my white board first, it saves me from having to practice on a quilt sandwich, eliminating waste.)
:)

I'm thinking I need to do a similar quilt for myself!  I had purchased a quilt kit to console myself during my cancer journey 8 years ago, but never got around to stitching the quilt.  These Scripture blocks would be perfect for incorporating into that quilt, as they remind me of all the time I spent dialoguing with the Lord re: my bewilderment....

Below are closeups of each Scripture block before they were quilted:

Trusting that this quilt will bring comfort and healing!

  1. This is a beautiful, loving, kind gift for your friend's pastor. It, and your blog, inspire me! I found you from the list of teachers on The Old Country store's website. I live in Texas now but grew up off 896 near Delaware. I made one quilt 20 years ago and just this year got back into quilting and have been seriously bit by the quilting bug! I just finished one twin size for my daughter, almost finished another for my second daughter, making a Minecraft quilt for my son, a rag quilt for my husband and then a basket quilt for me. All are in various stages of production. I use my Bernina 1260 that I bought 20 years ago. My family and I are traveling to DC and Lancaster in June and am planning to stop by some quilt shops as I can appreciate them now! I hope to find some Scripture panels while there. Have you seen the Biblical blocks patterns? Those just went on my "to do" list! I know this is very wordy! Lol. Lastly, I am having trouble subscribing to your blog. Do you have a way to add me? Take care, God bless, and thanks for all the inspiration.

    1. Hi Jerusha, I'm so glad you found my blog! How did you find me? I didn't realize my blog address was listed anywhere, but was hoping people would find me. :) Yes, the quilting bug is a wonderful thing, isn't it! I'll have to look up the Biblical Blocks pattern - I'm not familiar with them. You should be able to find the Scripture panels at the Log Cabin Quilt Shop in Bird in Hand. If you are going to be in Lancaster on June 10, I'm teaching a Machine Quilting Lecture that afternoon. :) Lastly, I don't know how the blog subscribing part works. Let me see if I can figure that out for you. Blessings!

    2. Jerusha, I just added a subscription box on the right side near the top. Let me know if that does the trick!

    3. Yes, the subscription box worked! I found you by googling "Andrea Hoke blog Pennsylvania," not sure why I thought you might have a blog. Then Miss Andrea Quilts, The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show Comes To..." When I clicked that, I was taken to Pinterest where there was a picture of your quilts on the barn with a link to your blog underneath. Internet is amazing, huh? I am not computer savvy, just got lucky. Thanks for the invite to your class. I love the idea of going and we actually will be in the area that day and the 11th but I have a husband and three kids in tow...

    4. Good, thanks for letting me know! I really don't have many people who read my blog, so I never thought to do the subscription thing. I just like keeping a blog - it's like a digital scrapbook of my work. Can't believe you found it - that's amazing!! Understandable that a quilt class and 3 kiddos + a hubby doesn't always go together! :) Let's stay in touch!

  3. Yes, let's stay in touch. Do you mind if I email you pics of the quilts I'm working on? I don't have a blog because I can't figure out how to have time to quilt AND blog, haha.
